First off this book was RUINED for me since some IDIOT decided to put the main ending of this book in the description of the next book. WHY WOULD YOU POST A SPOILER IN THE DESCRIPTION OF THE NEXT BOOK... there are SO MANY of her books you have to read the description to MAKE SURE you are buying the next CORRECT book.. SO I AM BEYOND ANGRY THIS BOOK WAS RUINED FOR ME!!!

SPOILER----Im going to talk about the book now so dont read on if you have not read the book...

The whole plot of this is getting stupid. First of the Parabati curse..that you go mad? Thats so dumb and unbelievable. I can understand the rules of not being involved with each other and going on from there, I can even believe a curse...but to go mad? Thats stupid and makes it sound retarded..you go mad and start killing people..what kind of lame ish is that??? Why not have done something like ruins and powers stop working---but going mad? That can seem real maybe if one was in love with unreturned love but both going mad and turning into murderous killers...reading that made me feel like the book was going in some kind of lame delusional child fantasy direction, then Diana's big transgender secret...COME ON...wtf...that is SO LAME...I couldnt even read through the lame description of that...and the whole outburst of zara and no one doing anything and the whole downworlder protest and allowing the outrage when Annabell had the sword...reading that made me think of harry potter and voldermont and pure bloods...and its like- ok- so there was no power from the inquisitor to stop outbursts from people and signs like that? because in real like if people had outbursts in court theyd be kicked out and put to order, the book just lost everything for me and the entire series, it was what could possibly be realistic in a fantasy world is now being crushed by a child like story with things not even deeming possible.........I have never ever added my thoughts about a book in a review..but the fail of this and the way it is heading and then slightly looking at review ratings of the next book make me think the next book is going to be a fail...I'm completely disappointed in where this is going and has gone. I can only hope the next book somehow makes up for it so my favorite series doesn't turn into my biggest disappointment of all time. ( )

The second in The Dark Artifices series, Lord of Shadows, refers to the King of the Unseelie Faerie Court, who hunts for The Black Book of the Dead, hoping it will unlock the power to destroy the Shadowhunters he hates. With the wizard Malcolm Fade finally destroyed, Julian Blackthorn returns to running the Los Angeles Institute and looking after his siblings, Tavvy, Ty, Livvy, and Dru. Of course, the peace doesn’t last long. Soon, giant squid demons are threatening the southern California coast. They are the least of the Blackthorn’s problems since the Cohort, a radical faction inside the Clave, seeks war with the Downworlders. There’s lots of action and supernatural shenanigans as good Shadowhunters face off against evil ones once again; however, I believe the author spends way too much time in this book, immersing the reader in the romantic entanglement of the characters. Jules and Emma (parabatai) fight their forbidden love, while Kieran, Mark, and Cristina have an awkward threesome blooming. I know these relationships are essential to the plot. However, I can only read about how cloudy someone’s eyes are or how soft their hair is so many times. I felt this much time spent on every sexual desire the characters experience distracted from the story. ( )

I am starting to dislike Julian and the choices he has been making. I know that he thinks he has valid reasons for making these decisions but he is definitely moving towards the dark side. ( )

I really am so glad I finally got around to reading this book. It is a book I have put of mostly for length and I am regretting that. I really was impressed by this read. This book was one that packed such a punch but one that I not expect. Even thought this book had a massive cast of characters. i felt like that plot and the characters all got enough love and attention. I really grew to love all the characters even more and found the end of this book to be gutwrenching. So many things I adored about his book including the focus on predjuices and also LGBTQ story elements. I have so many characters from the previous series that i am dying to see, but I THINK this book was able to stand on its own. I must start the next read soon!! ( )
