Valeros the warrior can rely on his sword arm and his friends - the mysterious and beautiful sorcerer Seoni, the quick-witted elven rogue Merisiel, knowledgeable and powerful wizard Ezren, the well-traveled dwarven ranger Harsk, and courageous cleric Kyra - but nothing can prepare him for the dangers that lurk ahead. Generic fantasy archetypes (literally, these characters were designed as archetypes for the Pathfinder RPG) go out and kill goblins that have been attacking a town. It goes about how you'd expect. Most of the characters start out together or otherwise seem to know one another, and yet later seem unable to work together, that just seems sloppy. Obnoxious snippiness ensues. Some attempt is made to give the characters some depth, but it's pretty heavy-handed.

Other things about the story were unclear, too, but probablly would have made sense if I knew anything about the Pathfinder RPG world (or read the game manual in the back). Still it seems like it could have been written to make sense even without that, they've wasted their opportunity to get me interested in the game world. ( )
