No current Talk conversations about this book. 2281 Father Faber, by Ronald Chapman (read 26 Mar 1990) The subject of this biography was born 28 June 1814 and died 26 Sep 1863. He was a strange man, and the book tells his life well. He entered the Church shortly after Newman, and this book goes over the disputes between him and Newman. The book tells of Faber's hymns only passingly, and gives little attention to his most famous: Faith of Our Fathers. His poetry is not great, but I have a kindly feeling toward it--forgotten as it now is. His religious writing is too much, even for me. This book has enough samples to convince me of that. This book was worth reading, though the interminable account of the quarrels between Newman and Faber is neither edifying nor interesting. ( ) no reviews | add a review
