"Charla Rae Denny was the perfect wife with a perfect life, content to keep the home fires burning while her husband, JB, competed as a champion bull rider. Then their son died in a tragic accident--and everything fell apart. Divorced and saddled with a hill of bills and a failing ranch, Charla must now cowboy up to put her life back together. James "JB" Denny doesn't stay where he isn't welcome. So when Charla shut him out of her grieving heart--and their home--a year ago, he took comfort where he could find it. Now after seeing beautiful Charla again, he wants it all back. She can't work the ranch alone, and deep in his heart he knows he can be the man she needs. But after so much history and heartbreak, can JB convince Charla to take a risk and give their love a second chance?"--P. [4] of cover.… (more)

Good romance (something I don't read much of) with a good plot that tugs at your heart. And every guy should read page 254!;) ( )

The bones of the story is good but I didn't really connect with it.
They suffer the loss of a child and the wife shuts him out. They split up, he has a relationship with a much younger woman, he lives with her.
Later he wants to get back with his ex wife.
I didn't like both characters talking to themselves, I hate that.

More than a love story, Laura Drake’s The Sweet Spot is an emotional journey of forgiveness. This deeply moving novel will make you laugh, cry and ultimately rejoice as JB and Charla Rae Denny find their way back to one another after tragedy tears them apart. This was awesome. Not my usual type of read, but more of a 'real' type of feel with relatable characters going and growing through some of the toughest things life can throw at anyone. Both MCs make choices that, in hindsight, made their situation even worse. This story is about how they make their way through and back to each other.

We didn't get a HEA where there was a surprise pregnancy with triplets or any other fairytale ending, but we did get a believable ending with both MCs in a place where they can build a new future together.

This story left me feeling surprisingly good, especially considering how terrible several of the elements they had to deal with were. ( )

Charla Ray and Jimmy

This book is about a long-married couple learning to deal with grief and mending a relationship after that grief tore them apart. I had tears way to often to say I really enjoyed this book. Great characters dealing realistically with very heart-breaking issues. Oh, and cattle and bull riding. ( )
