This should be a must read for anyone entering forensics or law. It was an interesting look at the history of the death penalty in America. Some of the cases are interesting to read. It is interesting to see where some states have come in regards to their laws about the death penalty. Even though it is a textbook/reference book, it was still easy and enjoyable to read. ( )

I will be honest and say I don't remember asking for this book but I do appreciate it being sent to me. It is not a book for your average person. It's a reference book on the Death Penalty. I did read some of the cases and found those to be very interesting. It would be a great addition to anyone who practices Law library. ( )

390 pages. This is a very complete to the Federal and State Laws concerning the death penalty in all fifty states. There is an extensive Notes and Bibliography Section for further reference.

This was a book I received as an Early Reviewer on LibraryThing. I did not remember checking the box to say say I would read it, yet there it was in my mailbox. I’m not going to lie, it is a very dry book, I am 99% sure it is aimed at being a text book. I am not a legalese and if I hadn’t received this book the way I had I would not have read it. It was very dry and hard for me to get through, and sadly I didn’t I made it to chapter 8 and just gave up. In the intro, the author states that this book “aims to provide an objective review of how capital punishment works in the United States.” He further states that “the primary focus of the book is upon issues that are resolved after a defendant has been convicted of a capital crime.” Being the general populace I feel that he achieved his goal. Again, not saying I would recommend this book to my book club, but it was an informative read.

The Death Penalty in the United States is a dense read filled with fascinating facts. The set-up of the book is in chapters with a main title and subheadings for each section. I really liked how the author wrote the purpose of each chapter before delving into each topic. Because of that, I was able to navigate the book easily and could pick what chapters I wanted to read closely and which chapters I could skim. Since I'm not well-versed in law, I appreciated the easy readability of the text and the glossary of legal terms in the back of the book. Overall, I enjoyed this book and appreciate the information that I've learned. ( )
