It was alright. Not spectacular but not bad. Kalin's story was decent, but I feel like Ariel's story is incomplete. I hope that is remedied in the future if not already. I was also overwhelmed by the level of corny romance in all the works. So melodramatic. It is more likely that someone would get pissed off and accidentally summon a hurricane through magic than two people in love being that freaking mushy with each other all the time. Bleh. ( )

I won this collection from LibraryThing. It is a set of 4 short books--two sets of two books each (novellas).

High Witch
It's a story about Ariel who is trying to escape from a pre-arranged marriage and Brayden, who keeps dreaming of a sensuous woman (Ariel). They meet and fall in love. Ariel tells her story to Brayden and he finds out she is one of three High Witches and the one she was supposed to marry , is the devil. Brayden tells of the history and helps Ariel learn her powers.

High Witch Emerging
Continuation of Ariel's story and finding the second of three High Witches. The only problem is, is that Ariel is pregnant and the baby is female and also a High Witch. She fears that since there can only be three high witches, one will have to die. Ariel finds Hallie and finds out that Hallie is pursued by Nicholas, a powerful warlock. What is his history and what does Hallie and Ariel have to do with it.

Myriad
This is a story about a warlock, Kalin. As a small child, he was abused by his parents for doing magic. So he refused to do it. He left home and found a group of people who knew what he was. Myriad is out to kill the Royal family and it's up to Kalin to stop him. What is the connection between Myriad and Kalin. And will Kalin be able to save the Royal family and himself?

Tanner
This is a continuation of Kalin's story. Mark and Sasha, who are friends of Kalin and Regina, find out that Mark's brother Tanner is in trouble. Mark and Tanner had a falling out when they were younger and it was about Sasha. They find out a witch called Lisandra is wanting to work a spell that will kill a lot of people to get what she wants. Is Kalin going to be able to stop her and save all his friends?

These are a great little group of fantasies with romance involved. Good versus evil all around. Great reads at bedtime for sure. ( )

I loved the concept of this collection. The fight and magic scenes were fun reads. And I have to point out that Julius and Nicholas definitely enjoyed their elaborate contraptions for torture. However, I struggled a bit with seeing the full picture of the story sometimes. Some details lacked, especially that of characterization, so I had to put my own idea on what the character looked liked most of the time. Also, I love romance and nothing makes me happier then seeing two characters come together, but sometimes there was just too much of it and it felt a bit forced. It didn't feel real to me. That being said, this collection is still a fun read, especially for all of you magic enthusiasts. ( )

High Witch Review:

I was thoroughly excited when I found out I won the book series from LibraryThing’s Member Giveaways. However, I am disappointed with the series. The plot of High Witch seemed very intriguing and unique, but it was written poorly. Not in the sense that there were grammatical errors everywhere, but the fact that it was not well thought out or planned. The author is not descriptive enough in my opinion. I understand novellas are short literary works, but Steinback’s Of Mice and Men gave great description without being too wordy. I don’t want pages of description, but I would like to see what the author imagined. For example, Brayden, one of the main characters is NEVER described to readers! Is he blonde? Does he have brown eyes? These were the questions I asked myself throughout the novel, not only with this character, but the scenes as well.

While damsel-in-distress novels are outdated for this day and age, they can be well written. This novel was not consistent in my opinion. Brayden falls in love with Ariel after meeting her in person for 1 day. Also, they have sex on the second day and profess their love for each other shortly after. Yes, he dreamt of her for 30 nights, but this was much too fast! I would understand if there was sexual tension building and all of that jazz, but there was none of that. The characters seemed nervous and awkward, which does not mix with their hasty hookup. It was just too much for me. I pictured this novel taking place in the 17th or 18th century where sex before marriage is a huge taboo. Didn’t seem to fit the novel or characters in my opinion. I wish the author had built more and expanded on her characters. They seem too flat. I honestly believe this novel could be a wonderful series if the author was more descriptive and built more on her characters. ( )

Fantasy Collection by Mona Hanna was well written collection of books. I love books about witches and magic. Mona did a great job keeping my attention. It was like watching a movie in my head everything came to life. That's what I love about this book it transported me to another place while in the comfort of my own home. I would recommend this book to people who like magic. ( )
