Title: Winds of Freedom (Kate Neilson Novel #2)
Author: Rebecca Carey Lyles
Pages: 366
Year: 2013
Publisher: Perpedit Ink
The characters first introduced to us in book one of the series, Winds of Wyoming, continue in this story that mainly focuses on Amy a friend of Kate’s from their days in Patterson Prison. There are several threads that run through the story such as human trafficking, Alzheimer’s, running a ranch and companionship. Faith is the most forthright theme in the story as characters learn to pray and believe that while circumstances are dark, God is with those in the brothels.
Kate is trying to emotionally recover from learning she will never have children the normal way, but God is working on Kate’s heart. Kate found a box that has pictures and such from her childhood that was found in her aunt’s attic and brings both anticipation and wariness about the contents. Laura, who is Kate’s mother in-law and widowed now for two years, chooses to begin a friendship with the man whose daughter tried to bring ruin to the Whispering Pines ranch last year.
I hope what little I shared above tantalizes you to read both novels which are set in Wyoming. The action and danger some of the players face will keep readers turning the pages for awhile to see how it concludes. I cannot imagine those whose lives have been upended and destroyed by sex traffickers not just around the world but here in the states as well.
These novels are a great gift to those who like the western genre, romance, hope and adventure that is uniquely crafted in these stories. The highlight for me was how the author shows older Christians are needed to help guide other Christians or can be effective prayer warriors. My husband and I have lost his parents and my father to Alzheimer’s, which is treated lovingly in the book and depicts how much attention our loved ones who suffer with this need. I love how Kate’s husband Michael is a Zane Grey fan and a bison rancher. I just cannot imagine those big shaggies on a ranch! It added humor for me to the books.
My rating is 5 stars.
