Uncle Snake was a strange and confusing book. It's a tale of a boy who goes into a forbidden cave and winds up returning home with a snakehead. No one can help him and change him back to his human-headed self. Years later Uncle Snake went into the clouds scaring children away from the cave and allowing the rains to come down every year to make the crops grow. This book is a new spin on the original folklore of the illustrator's culture of Mexico. The strangely odd illustrations go hand in hand with the odd text. ( )
