He was the summer lover who could heal her heart with sunsets over the lake, zinnia bouquets and steamy kisses. Can Kevin Corbin and Mandy Klavis find hope in the future by reliving their past? When Mandy returns to Sandy Shores for a family emergency a lot has changed. She'd been voted the girl most likely to succeed ten years earlier. Her dreams of marriage and a career in the big city didn't deliver. Duty calls her home and Kevin knows all about duty. The town she'd turned her back on still feels like a bad fit until Kevin Corbin stops in the family bakery for a raspberry kolache. Unsettling memories come flooding back. Kevin was the sure-footed quarterback Mandy left behind. Following three tours of duty, he now struggles with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Instead of a wife, he has a one-eyed dog named Rufus. This is the story of Mandy, whose husband cheated on her, and her ex-boyfriend, Kevin, who suffers from PTSD. Mandy returns home to help out her mother and heal her own broken heart. She reunites with Kevin and they rekindle their old romance.

This was a quick read. I feel like it could have been flushed out more and made into a longer story. The ending seemed rushed, and it felt like there things that were skimmed over that could have gone into more detail. For instance, how was Kevin dealing with his PTSD? There was a brief mention that he goes to the VA hospital, but no mention of the type of treatment he receives.

Overall I thought it was a good story and would recommend to anyone looking for a quick and easy read. ( )

Amanda "Mandy" Klavis is soon to be divorced and heading to her childhood home Sandy Shores. Mandy is going to be helping her mother and family bakery out for the next three months. Mandy feels lost and hurt by the divorce but unsure what her next steps are yet. As Mandy settles into a routine at the bakery and helping her mother starting to feel more confident about herself. Mandy runs into her high school sweetheart Kevin Corbin. Kevin is also divorced and Veteran. Kevin suffers from PTSD which is helped by his dog. Will Mandy rediscover her feelings for Kevin? Can Mandy help Kevin? Will Kevin break thru Mandy's walls? Your answers await you in Summer Riptide.

This contemporary romance is sweet reminder that love in all it's forms is beautiful to behold. I felt a kinship with Kevin because of PTSD. I also suffer from PTSD as well. This book is an emotional roller coaster for me. I would definitely read more of this author's work in the future. ( )

Barbara Lohr has once again created characters with depth that you have to like. Mandy is recently divorced and has gone back to her small hometown on Lake Michigan to assist her family. She meets up with her ex-boyfriend from high school and memories and sparks are kindled. Mandy has a lot to think about over the summer during her leave from a high powered stressful job. I would recommend this to anyone who needs to have a feel good quick romance with great characters. It won’t take long to read but it will linger after you turn the last page. ( )

Summer Riptide by Barbara Lohr is a fun read, perfect for lying on the beach in summer. I connected with Mandy from the first paragraph. Her throat hurt from singing along in the car and that is so relatable for me.

The story follows Mandy who has just returned home to:
1. Care for her mother after she breaks her leg,
2. Help her sister at the family bakery,
3. Deal with the circumstances around her recent divorce.

I really enjoyed this book. I would recommend this as a quick, feel good summer read. I received this ebook in exchange for an honest review. ( )

What a fun quick read! For such a short story the characters were well developed and you surrendered to them right away! This is a perfect summer read and has me wanting to go visit Sandy Shores! ( )
