Having read Volume 1 but not Volume 2, this started out as being a bit confusing for me. This fantasy comic book trade paperback is entertaining and well-constructed. It is the collection of comics from the Grimm Fairy Tales series and engaging enough to want to know what ensues. It reminds me of the early Image comics.

The first one-off chapter centres around Olympus, Zeus, his son, Zagreus, Venus and the Dark Horde.

The second one-off chapter deals with Wonderland, Calie Liddle, her daughter, Violet and her own struggle against the Dark Queen.

The third one-off chapter deals with the land of Oz and the Dark Queen recruits Warlord to deal with Dorothy

The common link to all the stories is the Dark Queen recruiting and scheming as she attempts to bring about the Age of Darkness.

The artwork is very good from different artists and I enjoyed the stories and format. I’d recommend this to any comic lover who enjoys Image Comics’ output, including the obligatory scantily-clad ladies.

The nerd in me found some discrepancies: Zeus, Venus and Neptune together when two are Roman and the first is Greek.

Enjoyable enough and I look forward to reading more of the same.
