Another sparse picture book that will easily cross over into the early reader set. The dog is expressive and lovable, so I can see this being popular at storytime. One quibble- the dog is fairly realistically drawn, the stick picture is a photo of a stick, so why is the chick made out of a flower petal? ( )

There is a dog that wants to play. The dog starts to play with a stick. When the dog meets a little bird, they started to play with each other. The author uses rhyming words to help the story flow. Books show that rhyming can be introduced in a fun and silly way. Books also help learn with rhyming. ( )

This adorable book of few words is perfect to share with beginning readers and older kids too. Smick is irresistibly cute as he does what dogs do, chases, fetches, and looks huggable. Smick is happy when a stick shows up, but how will he react when a chick appears? Actions, rhymes, and wordplay make this a fun and quick read that will help kids discover the joy of friendship.

Whatevah.  It's an outline for a book.  Or a very early phonics reader (like a Bob book).  Cute, but not worth spending much time or money on. In my opinion. ( )

This would make a very good first learning to read book just after Orange Pear Apple Bear. Sparse on words, hints in the images, some rhyming and it's cute and funny. ( )
