This is a detective story from late 19th century Singapore and Malacca. It deals with a detective investigating the disappearance of native kids from the jungles around Malacca and the murder of the local Resident. Although it is an interesting piece of historical fiction, perfect for somebody who has recently travelled to the area, it is not a particularly exciting detective story. ( )
