I am and have been a Karen Carpenter groupie for as long as I can remember. I grew up listening to the Carpenters music and still remember the day she died. I, like so many others, was heartbroken.
This book is a very detailed account of Karen's life, intimately discussing the inner family circle including Richard and her parents. Inside are accounts by schoolmates, fellow musicians (before and during "The Carpenters), and family as well as personal friends.
Much discussion occurs regarding Karen's battle with Anorexia. This includes her attempts at treatment, pleas from family and friends to recognize and address her health, and culminating with her sad passing.
There are also a few pictures included - some maybe never seen before by the public.
While absolutely enjoying this book, I give it 4.5 stars due to the ending 25% only consisting of footnotes, discography, and the index. ( )
