It took way too long for Falco to give in to that dog. All in all it was a fairly enjoyable Falco romp though. ( )

Top of the line Marcus Didius Falco novel. When Petro brings down the big rissole, Balbinus Pius, a new chief gangster sweeps in to take over the illegal trades in Rome. Falco gets assigned to Petro's vigiles by Emperor Vespasian in order to look for the spy within the petrols own midst. While Rome is besieged by crooks, Tertulla, Marcus' niece is kidnapped and Helena Justina is pregnant, and Marcus' own Dad, Geminus is causing his own special brand of trouble. ( )
