Pat Andrea llegó a Buenos Aires en 1976, pocos días después de un sangriento golpe militar. Conmocionado por la brutalidad imperante realizó una serie de dibujos cuyo obsesivo tema es la puñalada, imagen tomada del tango que lleva ese nombre. Ya en Europa contactó con Julio Cortázar, quien fascinado por su obra le regaló este cuento.
