Other than the bullet lodged less than a centimeter from his heart, former Detroit police officer Alex McKnight thought he had put the nightmare of his partner's death and his own near-fatal injury behind him. After all, Maximilian Rose, convicted of the crimes, has been locked in the state pen for years. But in the small town of Paradise, Michigan, where McKnight has traded his badge for a cozy cabin in the woods, a murderer with Rose's unmistakable trademarks appears to be back to his killing ways. With Rose locked away, McKnight can't understand who else would know the intimate details of the old murders-not to mention the signature blood-red rose left on his doorstep. And it seems like it'll be a frozen day in Hell before McKnight can unravel the cold truth from a deadly deception in a town that's anything but paradise.… (more)

Barely started this book. Nothing to grab my interest about McKnight to invest my reading time in another detective series. ( )

Alex McKnight retired from the Detroit police force after being shot. Now a private investigator in Paradise, MI living in a cabin his father built. Because the murder of 2 local bookies affect his gambling addicted and wealthy friend Edwin, Alex gets involved.

The case goes from bad to worse causing Alex to experience frightening memories; and angering the local police chief. Despite threats to Alex, he won't rest until he solves the case as lingering questions.

Good read with a surprising twist.

Really good mystery - good twists and turns. ( )

Not bad, just not great. Mediocre genre novel you can take to the beach and occupy your brain for awhile. I can't imagine why it is so hyped and popular- really mediocre by my estimate. ( )

New series. New-found author. I enjoyed this first book, and looking forward to the other. ( )
