When one of her teachers ends up mysteriously dead in his bed and the autopsy shows all his internal organs are burned, the coroners and sheriffs are working overtime to try to uncover what really happened. Meanwhile Cammie's mom is calling her and planning a visit, things between Cammie and Lyric are on the rocks, and Kyle O'Neill, local Mr. Wonderful, comes on to the scene as a love interest which is something Justin does not approve of. This book left me wanting to get my hands on book #3 in the series. I am a big fan of forensic science mysteries so thought I'd try out this young adult series about a 17 year old girl who is an assistant to her father the coroner. There are a few leaps in plot that are probably there just because of the shortened format but otherwise this is an enjoyable read. I did find her first book [book: The Christopher Killer] to be the better of the series as there was a tad whiff of angst throughout this one where as in The Christopher Killer it only appeared at the end. There also the required "fat" happy best friend that is a tad clichéd but still it made for a good afternoon w/ a book. ( ) I love that Hannah is coming to be known a bit more. I can't wait to find out what happens with Kyle and if he comes back or not. Really great forensic mystery. I dislike that it has such a similar cover to Stiff, but that's minor. 0.032 seconds to build listing no reviews | add a review

I can see, however, why this book was important to the series. Through the eyes of Cameryn the reader learns about the truly disturbing mental processes of serial killers. All is not gloves and text books in the world of forensics. Cameryn learns about this first hand, and Ferguson paints the details in her inimitable way, complete with the gruesome bits.
Overall, a good read. YA mystery fans will undoubtedly enjoy this book. (
