The book tells the story of a shipwreck that lead to an epic life boat journey of 4300 miles. A young and unknown reporter named Samuel Clemens gets the scoop and becomes famous as Mark Twain. This was his breakout story that launched his writing and speaking career.
It contain lots of basic maritime history. It quickly retells the stories of the Bounty, the Essex and the Miquonette. My son had never heard of the mutiny on the Bounty and we are going to see that movie together.
This was a book for teens, but it was great to share with them. It led us to some good discussions and a movie night. ( )
