Any time you have a book in your hands in which the main characters are Stephanie and Lula, you know you are in for a treat. This book even surpasses the others in the series. Steph promises one of her captures, a grave robber, that if he rebonds and has to stay in jail for a while, she will feed his rather large snake. Lula refuses to help with this endeavor, again showing her superior intellect in this dynamic duo, while Stephanie forges ahead without thinking. Things really get interesting when Disel shows up, along with Ranger and Joe. And yes, Steph does manage to total a car or two along the way. And are those strange looking creatures really zombies? Expect the unexpected in this entertaining and unique tale. Evanovich just keeps getting better and better. ( )

Between the professional grave robber, a boa constrictor named Ethel, and corpses with missing heads, life is full of near-disasters for the intrepid Stephanie Plum.

Adding to her difficulties, Diesel has returned, she’s wrecked yet another of Ranger’s vehicles, and Joe Morelli is all tied up in the investigation of the mutilated corpses that seems to involve some zombies.

And then there are the raccoons, the cats, and the rats . . . .

Readers will find this, the twenty-fourth outing for bounty hunter Stephanie Plum, a quick, easy read. With all the expected characters in place, readers may find this hare-brained tale of zombies a bit too absurd, even for the most ardent of fans. There are probably enough chuckle moments, but Lula’s antics are becoming less funny and more pathetic and the eternal triangle has existed far too long. Readers are likely to sigh with regret: Stephanie needs to stop using the guys in her life, find some integrity, and make a choice. ( )

Zombies, boa constrictors, headless corpses, wrecked Mercedes, and all the usual pratfalls raise their ugly heads in this not particularly original story. There is a sameness to each Stephanie Plum plot and characters that allows the reader to predict what is going to take place several paragraphs before it does. As a curiosity I asked five friends and family members who read earlier Plum books if they still read the series. To a person they said no--the earliest stopping at #9, another at #12, another at #14, and so on. I am adding myself to the Plumless reading list for #25. Hardcore Twenty-Four is not a bad book, it just doesn't pass the original and enjoyable test IMHO. ( )

The latest in the Stephanie Plum series. Yes, I know they are silly, but I usually enjoy these books. The ridiculous situations and the colorful characters are all very entertaining. Maybe it's the Jersey setting/jokes/lifestyle that gets to me as that is where I am originally from. Yes, the characters are predictable, but I expect them to be. Yes, the relationships don't progress, but, really, they are living in Trenton!!!! This twenty fourth novel, though, seemed a bit too rushed and fantastical. ( )
