This book describes the Australian Federation architectural style (1901-1915), its history and influences. I have such a house (built in 1910) so I had an interest. Federation style is called Australia's own because it is positive, decorative, open, ornate with good quality craftsmanship (owing to the booming economy and positive outlook for Australia when it became a nation). The styles it draws upon are Queen Anne, Old English, American shingle, Art Nouveau and the English Arts and Crafts movement. I found the history interesting. The book also contains many example pictures and characteristic elements (such as the use of Art Nouveau stained glass windows) and renovation/restoration advice. ( )
