This book is an edited collection following a 2013 symposium, comprising invited chapters under the four general headings of Design/Research, Text/Object, Borrowing/Stealing and Discipline/Indiscipline. I find it notable for two reasons. First, many of the contributors represent design research with a longer and more relevant heritage than interaction design can claim, meaning that there are some relatively mature concepts and perspectives in there to learn from. Second, the idea of concluding each part with a compilation of micro-essays on the respective part topics from 19 researchers earning their PhDs in design research works remarkably well.
