Dark and compelling

Peter is a trained killer, Sara a doctor dedicated to birth and life. They are brought together in less than auspicious circumstances that change their lives forever. Anna Zaires has written a fascinating and unusual story where love and hate are inextricably linked. Well worth reading, the story continues in a further book. ( )

I found the plot somewhat interesting, except that the characters maintained a victimized position, and neither did anything to leave the toxic relationship. Read the sequel, too, but did not continue from there. ( )

Before I read this book, I didn't know that it had an evil, evil, evil cliffhanger, so if you are looking for an HEA, I would wait for the series to end, otherwise, you will be left on tenterhooks. Personally, there is no way that I would be able to wait.

Sara is an OBGYN. She's surviving the wreck that physically claimed her husband, George, even if he's not dead. She's left kind of hanging in a limbo.

Peter is a man on a mission. Years before, the foreign intelligence companies had set up some faulty information that caused his tiny village to be destroyed and his wife and child killed. He has a list of all the people involved and he's working to get his vengeance. Sara's husband's name is just the current name on the list. The problem? He has no clue where George is. That means that he has to "talk" to Sara and get the information.

Peter and Sara's confrontation is difficult and terrible. It leaves her broken and him obsessed with her. And oh my, that obsession is completely hot.

I got so involved with the story. I sympathized with both Sara and Peter, even though Peter is a massive jerk of epic proportions at times. It shows just how broken he is and just how well Anna Zaires can write characters that make you like them, even if they are jerks. The story is well-written with layers and things that make you want to question and yell. That makes for a great book if you ask me. ( )

In preparation for the conclusion, I had to come back and read this book. I did it backward and started with book three (which incidentally knocked me on my behind) but figured I wanted to know ALL the details that I had missed in the series.

I am glad I did because I was able to get a better understanding of what made these characters tick. This author does a good job of making the anti-hero a love interest. Any other time, there is No way that a stalker/assassin would be attractive but sweet holy hell, Peter is most assuredly a dream. His patience and the way he is always avidly invested in Sara is remarkable. Looking forward to where this story goes next. ( )
