Ocean Day is written by Ken Kreisler and photographs by Shelly Rotner. This book is an easy informational book on the ocean. The little girl Emily goes to the ocean and plays in the sand. There are many things to see like sea urchins, snails and crabs. The book talks about the different seashells. The book shows a picture of how the sunlight shimmers on the water. Emily has to say goodbye to the ocean.

This book is short and simple. I liked the pictures in this book. My favorite part was the pictures. I didn’t like the story line. It mentions the little girl twice. However, the book is great to read to emergent readers.

I would use this book during an ocean theme. I would use it as a read-aloud to pre-k through second. This book would be great to introduce the topic of the ocean. I would have a class informational discussion with this book. Some of the things I would mention would be the many creatures that lived there and seashells. I could leave this book out for the children to look at the pictures. ( )
