* I got this book for review from the publisher, I also give this book 4.75 stars*

This book was such a pleasant suprise. I really loved both the setting of the novel and also the structure of this book but also the mystery was super captivating and super hard to predict. I liked how this book had a romance but focused on the mystery. This book was one that I had a hard time putting down, I also enjoyed how this book could remain a standalone, that can be rare. I did think adult involvement in this novel could have been better, but It was such a strong mystery novel with hints of magic. The duel structure off this novel was one I also really enjoyed. ( )

It was an entertaining read, but very predictable. Also, can we please kill the instalove trope already? If you absolutely hate instalove, you'll probably want to stay away from this one. It's a quick, light read, and it's great for fall if you're looking for something with witches and a cursed town, but don't expect too much from this. Unlike the title, this book is not that deep. I wish I could give this a five. I really do, but as much as I loved it (and I did) I don't feel like I got to know the characters as well as I would have hoped.

The atmospheric setting and the plot were so incredibly well done.

A new favorite for sure. ( )

I was somewhat disappointed in this and somewhat surprised. I had pretty high hopes based on the description, but wasn't overly invested in the story. There was a surprise towards the end that I didn't see coming, although afterwards I saw the clues that I missed. The atmosphere was good, and the tale of the Swan sisters was interesting, but I wasn't completely drawn in by Penny and the rest of the characters. I read the book pretty quickly but it wasn't a "I can't put it down" page-turner. There wasn't a lot of complexity in the characters, they could have been more developed, I didn't really care one way or another what happened to them. I think I picked this us because there was talk of making it into a movie, and maybe a movie version would be better? It was a good atmospheric story to read near Halloween, and if you like Hocus Pocus you might like this. Just like in Hocus Pocus, witch sisters come back from the dead to reek havoc on the small town that didn't want them.

I'm iffy on recommending this one. If you like YA with a little bit of creepiness, a little bit of romance, a little bit of mystery, then you may like it. If you want something with more substance, I'd say skip this one. If they do make a movie, check it out...it will only be a couple hours of your life instead of days. ( )
