I'm a werewolf King who chose to step down out of grief for my mate. For centuries I've been alone, choosing to live a life of modesty despite the wealth surrounding me. I deserve to be punished. I crave things I have no business craving. And it is manifesting itself in a way I'm terrified I won't be able to control any longer. Especially since she arrived. Vampire. Orphan. Beaten beyond recognition. My blood calls to her in a way that makes no sense. I'm a wolf. She's a vampire. The two don't mate. They barely tolerate one another. All it takes is one slip of control on my part -- one taste. And I doom us all. Then again, I never knew what is lurking inside has the power to balance good and evil.… (more)

Favorite of the series

Paranormal romance is not usually my favorite. It's very hit and miss for me (mostly miss) but not when it comes to this series. I was hooked from book one. I would recommend starting at the beginning before reading this book. Every character in this series is integral to the story. Had I not read the previous books I wouldn't have found myself smiling remembering their humor or interactions with each other.

That being said, Mason has piqued my interest from the beginning. With each book I fell more and more in love with him. He was perfectly balanced between his need to hunt and his need to heal. He was the ultimate dichotomy. He was not perfect and that flaw in turn made him perfect. His humor had me dying at parts.

"I inwardly groaned. Was I always this bad at decent conversations with people I wanted to lick?"

In fact the whole scene at Whole foods was one of my favorites, "I was minutes away from stripping her naked next to a head of lettuce. That damn well would cause a need for clean-up on aisle four...Not here. We couldn’t. She was better than that. But I couldn’t stop. I was going to have to call Ethan from prison. And explain that I mounted my mate in the employee break room of Whole Foods — and liked it."

Serenity. I loved that sweet vampire. My heart hurt that she had no one and felt unloved. She was perfect for Mason. Together they proved that opposites do attract and that no obstacle is insurmountable. Love is love.

I did have a couple questions that were unanswered but am hoping that will be answered in Timber's book. Definitely would recommend this book. ( )
