Tim Drake, the third Robin, is recovering from the death of his father and girlfriend, and coping with a death contract that the Penguin has put out on him, attracting a wide range of criminal assassins. There are some subplots going on with Tim's efforts to emancipate himself, Bruce offering to adopt him, and Alfred's developing feelings toward Mrs. Drake. At the end we find that Tim has been selected as a possible recruit by a legendary folk hero. I'm particularly impressed by Tim Drake of all the Robins, and so is Batman, as revealed in a scene where he reveals to Alfred that he believes Tim is smarter than him - or even Alfred.
