The religious background I was raised in strongly rejects baptism of infants, or paedobaptism. The Anabaptists (which today includes the modern Baptists and Pentecostals) were "re-baptizers" of people who were originally baptized as infants, which included anyone born into the Catholic, Orthodox, or Reformed churches. Today the focus on baptism is typically: baptism as a believing adult (credobaptism) being fully immersed in water. Most insist on a Trinitarian formula (In the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost/Spirit), though some Pentecostals say "In the name of Jesus" only.

The Filmaters come from a Trinitarian Pentecostal background. This book does a very fine job at justifying credobaptism (though I still disagree with it), and treats it more than a mere "profession of faith." One issue I had with my Baptist background was that the leaders today seemed to say, "Baptism really isn't important, but we're still going to let it divide us from other Christians." ( )
