A big hit with my kindergarten students! ( ) "If you're going to plan a birthday party, / stop and think it through. / Be careful what you dare / to ask a dinosaur to do." So begins this rhyming romp of a picture-book, which imagines the catastrophic possibilities, should the two children at the center of the tale give various party preparation tasks to various dinosaur species. From a T-Rex shredding the wrapping paper to a Therezinosaurus popping the balloons, disaster awaits... The second picture-book I have read from the new POW! Kids Books imprint, based in Brooklyn, Don't Ask a Dinosaur is an entertaining picture-book, one which pairs a rollicking, read-aloud text with bright, colorful artwork. I appreciated the fact that co-authors Deborah Bruss and Matt Forrest Esenwine chose many lesser-known dinosaurs species for their tale, and that they included a glossary at the rear. Recommended to all young dinosaur fans, and to anyone looking for entertaining new picture-books in rhyme. no reviews | add a review
Don't Ask a Dinosaur is about a party that goes wildly awry when a pack of dinosaurs with very unique physical attributes attempt to help set up. Written in a masterfully-executed rhyme, the book presents a cavalcade of lesser-known dinos and pairs their odd characteristics with little tasks that are hilariously impossible because of those features. "Don't ask Deinocheirus to set the forks and spoons," because his hands were enormous, "Therizinosaurus cannot blow up balloons," because he had very long claws. In the end they find the one thing everyone can help do is to blow out the candles on the cake...but will it create yet another mess? No library descriptions found. |
