This book would be great for primary. This is about the story of a mother and child immigrating to a new country. It talks about the mistakes made and how she just wanted what best for her dream (her child) I thought that this book was super encouraging to her culture and the people in similar situations to her.

A story on an immigrant mother who just moved with her child from their home to a new place. How they made mistakes, or didn't understand how things worked at first so they felt out of place. Until they made it to the library and learned to read, write and speak. And found their place again?

I knew everyone was talking about this book and how beautiful it is, but I didn't know it was such a meaningful tribute to the free public library. Thank you for this, Yuyi! This book makes me extra proud to be a librarian. ( )

This is the first picture book in a long while to make me want to cry. It was so beautiful. ( )

Dreamers is a powerful statement that immigrants don’t leave their languages and cultures behind while they explore new worlds.

"An illustrated picture book autobiography in which award-winning author Yuyi Morales tells her own immigration story"--

No library descriptions found.

Book description
In 1994, Yuyi Morales left her home in Xalapa, Mexico and came to the US with her infant son. She left behind nearly everything she owned, but she didn't come empty-handed.

She brought her strength, her work, her passion, her hopes and dreams...and her stories. Caldecott Honor artist and five-time Pura Belpré winner Yuyi Morales's gorgeous new picture book Dreamers is about making a home in a new place. Yuyi and her son Kelly's passage was not easy, and Yuyi spoke no English whatsoever at the time. But together, they found an unexpected, unbelievable place: the public library. There, book by book, they untangled the language of this strange new land, and learned to make their home within it.
