Well, this is my favorite of this series, but still only a 3. The characters just felt especially slow to catch onto things and then seemed to throw their ability to reason out the window entirely near the end. I really enjoyed Hawk's Hexworld and Whyborne & Griffin series (as well as the Rath & Rune and Pride books I've read), but this one fell very flat for me. It's too bad, but oh well. ( )

Another great addition to the series! Scary and emotionally compelling, with absolutely stellar characters.

I’m such a sucker for found family stories. The end made my cry a lot, because good people, who had been dealt a shit hand in life, finding loving and supporting partners and friends? Yes, please.

An additional, somewhat spoilery thought: I can’t believe they thought something named Xabat could be a benevolent spirit guide. It even sounds like something from The Exorcist, brr. ( )
