It's been popular with students, and I wanted to see the graphic novel, source material. Charlie is hooking up with a guy named Ben. It's not a healthy relationship for him. He starts sitting next to Nick in a class. The two of them grow a friendship. And Charlie is gay and out at school. Nick is open to the friendship, he's an athlete, and he explores new feelings as he spends more and more time with Charlie. ( ) 4 Stars! Pretty damn good! For one who isn’t an expert on comics nor the biggest fan of YA, this was the bees knees. Topical YA with a punch! Don’t be fooled into thinking this is simple and carefree. It is sweetness and earnestness, all rolled up in teen angst that superbly catches all the doubt, insecurity, and feelings that come with attraction and identity. Totally accessible and enjoyable and free! This is the story of Charlie and Nick - an overthinking, openly gay boy who has gone through a difficult time, and the popular star of the school's rugby team, who befriends Charlie, which turns his life upside down. I can only repeat what many others already wrote: This book is heart-warming and cute, and it feels like a hug. While the novel does not shy away from difficult topics (bullying, mental health problems, the difficulty of coming out), there are also so many good things: Friendship, hope, tender moments, safe spaces. I cannot wait to read the next volume! no reviews | add a review

"Shy and softhearted Charlie Spring sits next to rugby player Nick Nelson in class one morning. A warm and intimate friendship follows, and that soon develops into something more for Charlie, who doesn't think he has a chance. But Nick is struggling with feelings of his own, and as the two grow closer and take on the ups and downs of high school, they come to understand the surprising and delightful ways in which love works"-- No library descriptions found.
