I don't know how better to describe this book to you than to tell you to read the official description. Vegan-geologist Mom. Thousands of years old Oni Buddhist Dad. Private mining company town with evil cheerleaders and a gate to hell. What more could you want?

I thought this book would be laugh after laugh, and it was, but I also thought that was all it would be. There's a level of seriousness threaded through it, of Mari dealing with turning into a demon on top of being a teenager in a new town, and of Mari and her family having to save the entire earth. The book was at turns funny, sweet, and exciting. I'll be looking for more from this author.
