The Harmony volumes are British publications, and as such, use some terminology not familiar to US knitters. All terms, however, are define and illustrated. This 1988 Collins & Brown imprint is the same text as the 1990 "Harmony Guide to Knitting Stitches, Volume 3" published by Lyric Books.

The following categories of stitches are included in this volume: Knit & Purl textures; Slip Stich Mosaics; Slip Stitch patterns; Cross stitch patterns; Cross Stitch panels; Cable patterns; Cable panels; Cable and Lace patterns.

Each pattern has a color photo and line by line instructions; the slip stitch patterns also have an accompanying chart. Some of the colored patterns are shown in 2 and 3 color variations. ( )

This, the Harmony Guides, is a canonical series of stitches and patterns for knitting. It, like the Barbara Walker Treasury series, are essential to knitters who want to move beyond knitting other people's patterns.

I understand that this version of the series is going out of print, to be replaced by a new series that is organized differently. I'll probably buy it too. ( )

The original Harmony Guides were published in the 1980s and 1990s by at least two companies: Lyric Books and Collins & Brown. The titles and sequence were similar but not identical.

The volume originally published as The Harmony Guide to Knitting Stitches, Volume 3 (Lyric) was re-titled as The Harmony Guide to Practical Knitting Stitches (Collins & Brown) and later as 250 Creative Knitting Stitches: Volume 4 (Collins & Brown).
