This book is about Vicky Edwards, 16 years old, who is trying to make sense of death. Vicky's grandfather is dying from leukemia. She spends a lot of time with this boy who has more feelings for her than she does for him. Towards the end of the book, she learns to come to accept that people die and she learns to understand the feelings she has for the boys in her life. Anyone will connect to all the emotions that she goes through during this story. ( )

One of my favorite if not my all time favorite L'Engle novels. Vicky is a great heroine and Adam is just wonderful plus it has dolphins. IN this book it seems like Zachary finally got what was coming to him even though he did not in the end. I find him very frustrating. ( )

I read "A Wrinkle in Time" few years ago and I thought this is also a fantasy family drama. Scratch that.
It's actually about a family who spend their summer near the beach (or is it island? I already forgot. ( )

This is one of my all time favorite books, I have a very loved, very used, and many times read copy, one of the few I grace with pencil underlines for my favorite quotes, of which there are many. Any time someone is looking for a book to read, this is the first recommendation out of my mouth. It always puts things into perspective, and it's my go to when things are tough and/or I need to contemplate life. ( )

Book description
Watching her grandfather's condition deteriorate as the summer passes on beautiful Seven Bay Island is almost more than Vicky Austin can bear. To complicate things, she finds herself the center of attention for three very different boys: Leo is an old friend longing for romance; wild Zachary is sophisticated but troubled; and Adam, her older brother's friend, offers her a wonderful chance to assist in his experiments with dolphins but treats Vicky as a young girl just when she's ready to feel grown-up.

Why is life so hard when you're a teenager? Vicky wonders. But this summer she discovers that past the darkness of tragedy comes the light of joy.
