True to it's title, this book tells the story of Ninita, a Deaf Pygmy Marmoset who is rescued and raised by a loving human family and later released back into the wild. This heartwarming book details all the ways the humans lovingly care for Ninita - my favorite part being where they detail Ninita's love of being cleaned with a toothbrush! It also recognizes the importance of the rights of animals to exist in their natural habitat, as detailed in the end where Ninita returns to the wild with a Pygmy Marmoset friend.

Similarly to "Beware of the Crocodile", this story is great choice for animal lovers who may be more resistant to non-fiction reading. It could also provide a great connection for learning around disability- as a way of illustrating how both humans and animals navigate the world with different abilities.

The story is fun, accessible and makes for an engaging read-aloud, especially amongst K-2 students. Although the book does provide additional info about Pygmy Marmoset's, some additional info can be found here: https://www.livescience.com/58447-marmoset-facts.html

A pygmy marmoset born in captivity was abandoned by her family group at three weeks old, raised by human caregivers, and paired with another pygmy marmoset. Adorable, heartwarming.

Digital illustrations. Back matter includes an author's note about marmosets and the Rare Species Conservatory Foundation, a selected bibliography, and "fun facts" about pygmy marmosets (not especially fun, just regular facts).
