Lately, when I finish a Natalie Bennett book, all I want to say is fuuuuuuuuu... Yeah. This one is no different. I love the really dark cult thing that Natalie Bennett has been doing lately. It lets her really get into all kinds of conflict and lets her create her own society and all. It also leads to characters who are downright evil and who live by their own code and use words differently than the rest of the world does. And, curse me to Hades if she doesn't make it work so, so, so well.

Faith is a recovering addict. After a couple of years of trying to put her life back together after having fallen into the bottle and needles, she's going out with friends to spend some time at a resort. On their way to the resort, they have to stop to get gas and then their trip turns into some kind of horror movie.

Ryker is the man who Faith just can't resist, and she's the one woman who Ryker needs to have. She was best friends with his younger brother, but he OD'ed. Now, Ryker is ready to do what he has been wanting and needing to do, and Faith and Malignant are going to help me.

Poor Faith. I feel sorry for her. I can see where she's trying to get everything back under control, but she doesn't know that she's standing in a bog and the ground under her feet isn't anywhere as solid as she needs it to be. There are so many surprises and weird corners in this book. Then again, it is a Natalie Bennett book, and she apparently has some really weird corners in her mind. I'm just glad that she decided to open them up and share them with us.

I can't wait to read the next books in this series so I can learn more about what's going on. Natalie has just whetted my appetite and I'm so hungry. ( )

As usual, this particular author managed to deliver me a story that I really did enjoy: it wasn't perfect but there was still more pros for me here than cons.
I am going to be vague here as I'm not really sure how to adequately describe Devils With Halos the first standalone story in the loosely related Malignant series.
But what I can say is this was very much Natalie Bennetts usual style: a story chocked full of misdirects and unapologetic savagery where as usual she wallows in her debauched style of debased Viciousness.
This is a celebration of all things brutal and broken and I really did devour every morsel here obsessively inhaling in one complete sitting.
What could up my rating here probably a bit of added length and some extra clarification.
I felt this finished rather quickly without going into the bigger picture I am hoping this is expanded on in the next instalment to maybe shed some much-needed light.
On consideration, I am ever so excited to see where this new series is actually heading.
Great start: oh and please be aware this book contains no redeemed anti-heros.
What we are dealing with here is positively abhorrent behaviour with dub-con and non-con throughout know your own limits.
I voluntary reviewed an Arc of Devils With Halos (Malignant #1).
All opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

4.5 stars

Not for the timid or for anyone with a delicate stomach. This is dark, twisted, and psychologically terrifying. However, the mind games her are on point. I think that is half the reason I am drawn to the darker stories.

This author is fast becoming one of my top Dark authors. ( )
