As the holidays approach, Detective Lindsay Boxer and her friends in the Women's Murder Club have much to celebrate. Crime is down. The medical examiner's office is quiet. Even the courts are showing some Christmas spirit. And the news cycle is so slow that journalist Cindy Thomas is on assignment to tell a story about the true meaning of the season for San Francisco. Then a fearsome criminal known only as "Loman" seizes control of the headlines. He is planning a deadly surprise for Christmas morning. And he has commissioned dozens of criminal colleagues to take actions that will mask his plans. All that Lindsay and the SFPD can figure out is that Loman's greed -- for riches, for bloodshed, for attention -- is limitless. Solving crimes never happens on schedule, but as this criminal mastermind unleashes credible threats by the hour, the month of December is upended for the Women's Murder Club. Avoiding tragedy is the only holiday miracle they seek.… (more)

The 19th book in the Women's Murder Club series. The Women's Murder Club is made up of 4 women - Lindsay Boxer of the SFPD, Cindy Thomas, a reporter, Claire Washburn, the ME and Yuki Castellano, an attorney.

The book starts out just before Christmas - crime is down and the news cycle is slow. Cindy is working on a story of the true meaning of Christmas for some residents of San Francisco.

When Lindsay Boxer and her partner, Rich Conklin are out Christmas shopping, someone attempts a "grab and run" knocking down an older man. This attempt sets off a chain reaction ultimately ending with a "tip" that someone named Loman is going to stage a heist somewhere in the city. The SFPD gets tips hourly about a new location where the heist might take place. They know nothing more than the name "Loman".

Usually, the Women's Murder Club meet up and talk about what each of them is working on and that didn't happen in this book. I missed that but it was still a very good read. ( )

The 19th Christmas
Women’s Murder Club, Book 19

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series.

Media Type: Audiobook
Source: R Public Library
Dates Read: 12/8/23 - 12/10/23
Stars: 4

The Characters:

Lindsay Boxer: Police detective
Clair Washburn: Medical Examiner
Yuki Castellano: Attorney
Cindy Thomas: Crime desk reporter
Joe Molinari, Warren Jacobi, Ritchie, Julie, Jackson

The Story:

I’m not sure if I planned it or if it just happened but the timing of this book is perfect. Lindsay and the gang (minus Clair who is off teaching in another state) are thrown for a real loop this time, trying to prevent a crime by a mastermind that no one can point out. No one knows who he actually is and the team needs to figure it out before the heist happens. They pull in everybody and I mean everybody. Jacobi even steps back in after his retirement. This book has all the twisty turns you expect from this series and the action. Can’t wait to read the next one.

The Women's Murder Club is always a good, quick read. In this one, though, there really wasn't a meeting of the club and it was one of the weaker episodes.. The mastermind criminal keeps the police distracted while he executed his true crime, on Christmas. This story was very Boxer and Conklin oriented. The other characters are minimalized. It was nice to see Jacoby back from Chiefdom and retirement. ( )
