I normally would not write a review of a board book I read to my daughter, but I had to in this case. To be clear, I like the handful of other Sandra Boynton books we’ve read together. However, I hated this! First of all, the nonsense names of the creatures do not roll off the tongue, the way they would in a Dr. Seuss book. Second problem: I was expecting an “and how big are YOU? Sooo big!” but alas nothing of the sort awaited me. Instead, at the end, we met two creatures, one of whom was ready for bed, and the other NOT. I have read enough children’s books to know that they often end with the characters going to sleep, prompting the young listener to follow suit. Instead, this one ends with a character “actually” being wide awake, and a prompt to start the book over. Absolutely not. I am very glad this was a library check-out so I can return it without ever reading it to my child again. Lol. ( ) no reviews | add a review
