An amazing resource on Audubon's Birds of America, which I have finally taken the time to read fully (rather than just dipping in an out as I've done for years, or opened to add my annotations to as copies have changed hands). While this is not the book to read if you are interested in Audubon's artistic process and how he came to draw the birds, for the publication history of the first edition and the subsequent travels of the copies, this is your book. The excellent update by Susanne Low is a vital component, as it brings things from Fries' 1973 publication up to 2004. ( )
