A good look at the Clintons time in office from the perspective of a close friend of the President and First Family. Although it is a bit heavy going at times (no doubt because the book wasnt aimed at the general public in mind) and a little bit over the top on right wing conspiracy, he does describe and explain the horrific attempt to destroy Clintons Presidency from the outset. I enjoyed Mr Blumenthals chapter on his personal political history, indeed the comment about his poster of JFK on his dorm room wall and his start in politics and journalism, made me want to emulate his start. I suppose its a book where right of spectrum readers will dismiss it as pandering, self righteous liberal embellishment, which to an extent it is. Though as a Clinton fan and a liberal at heart, I found that to be its greatest strength. ( )

i had trouble getting over blumenthal's absolute devotion to the clintons -- and i'm generally inclined to like the clinton presidency! too much, overdone, i couldn't read more than a chapter at a sitting. ( )

What can I say? What an excellent book on the 8 tumultuous years of the Clinton White House. Stretching across the history of the United States Clinton was part of a long time of active progressive presidents attacked from the conservative establishment and entrenched conventional wisdom. Clinton - Johnson - Kennedy - FDR - Wilson -TR - & Lincoln. It's a long but extremely engaging book backed up with many footnotes and facts.

I was skeptical of Hillary's `vast right wing conspiracy' charge on the Today Show - however after reading this book and learning about the Arkansas Project, William Mellon Scaife, David Brock, the elves & Ken Starr - it's hard not to believe in the veracity of his claims. Clinton was attacked relentlessly and impeached on the most bogus reasoning in order to derail the progressive movement.

I think you'll find as the reader an incredible education on the machinations of the establishment and the danger that the right wingnuts are to the Constitution. After reading the Clinton Wars I must get involved in local politics and make a difference - we all have to make a difference. ( )
