Another winner for sure. I think this series is getting better. I am never bored. The plots are always good; however, it is the characters that really make this series special. I particularly love the snarky banter and this one didn't fail on that.

I know I am vested in the lives of the characters when I wish I could be a fly on the wall at the wedding of Tyler and Sinead. It would have been good for some laughs, no doubt. Kudos to the author for making me care so much about the characters.

Can't wait to read the next book in the series. For more of my reviews, and author interviews, see my blog at www.thespineview.com. ( )

This is the tenth book in the Scottish crime series featuring Detective Chief Inspector Jack Logan.

A headless corpse is found at the Well of the Seven Heads Monument on the banks of Loch Oich near Invergarry. The story associated with the monument has to do with a clan dispute in the 1660s. The seven men in the sculpture were beheaded as an act of vengeance.

The victim in current times was identified as Fergus Forsyth, aged twenty-five, and a teacher at the secondary school in Fort William. The fact that the victim met the same fate in the same place was an indication that the motive might be similar.

The Major Investigations Team travels once again to Fort William from Inverness to investigate.

The team, made up of Detective Inspector Ben Forde, Detective Sergeant Hamza Khaled, Detective Constable Tyler Neish, Detective Constable Sinead Bell, and Constable David Davidson work to find out who might have wanted Fergus dead and why.

In the meantime, Tyler and Sinead are preparing for their upcoming wedding; Sinead has asked Logan to give her away. The challenge is for Tyler and Sinead to remain in one piece before the ceremony as they go chasing through the area for the possible culprits.

Olivia Maximuke, 13, and the daughter of a criminal the team put behind bars, also plays a role in this book. She has now gotten into the life her father can no longer participate in, but thought she was relatively safe in doing so. She gets a shock however that indicates she is in grave danger.

Evaluation: This book continues to delve into the personal relationships of the team and of Olivia, who has become connected to them, and Bob Hoon, their former chief, who is hilarious. This series is addictive for those who appreciate thrillers. ( )
