Fiction. Literature. Suspense. Thriller. HTML:A shooting lays bare the secrets harbored by five families in a sleepy suburban cul-de-sac in this riveting psychological thriller from the New York Times bestselling author of All the Wrong Places.
??Cul-de-sac proves once again that Joy Fielding is an ingenious master of domestic suspense.???Samantha M. Bailey, USA Today and #1 national bestselling author of Woman on the Edge

Someone on this quiet, unassuming cul-de-sac will be shot dead in the middle of a sultry July night.
Will it be Maggie, the perfectionist wife, or Craig, the husband who can??t quite live up to her expectations? They??ve packed up their two children and fled their life in California, hoping for a fresh start in Florida, only to find the demons of the past hovering on their doorstep.
Maybe it will be Nick, a highly respected oncologist, or his wife, Dani, a successful dentist, both with well-kept secrets of their own.
Or perhaps the victim will be Julia, an elderly widow, whose troubled grandson has recently moved in with her, introducing unsavory habits and even more unsavory acquaintances into her formerly quiet existence.
Then there??s Olivia and her husband, Sean. Having lost his job at a prestigious advertising agency, Sean is depressed, resentful of his working wife, and drinking heavily. He is also prone to increasingly violent fantasies.
And what of the newlyweds, Aiden and Heidi, whose marriage is already on the rocks, due to Aiden??s reluctance to stand up to his intrusive mother? Matters aren??t helped when Heidi befriends Julia??s grandson, setting the stage for a major blowup.
A diverse group of neighbors, to be sure. Yet all harbor secrets. All bear scars. And all have access to guns.

This book takes place on a suburban cul-de-sac in south Florida where five families reside in somewhat similar houses. In the opening pages we learn that there is a deadly shooting on the cul-de-sac. We then go back a few months prior to the shooting and get to know the families. As we read we puzzle--who is the shooter? Who is the victim?

All of the families have guns. All harbor secrets behind their closed doors. There is a successful and beloved doctor, Nick, and his wife Dani, a successful dentist. But Dani is constantly disguising bruises from prying eyes. There are Olivia and Sean. Sean lost his job months ago, and Olivia has become the primary breadwinner. Now, Sean is lying to Olivia about finding a new job. Then there's Julia, an elderly widow in her 80's. Her son wants her to sell her house and move into an assisted living facility. Julia is resisting, and instead has her grandson, who is estranged from his father, her son, move in with her. Unfortunately her grandson is a pothead with a penchant for lifting jewelry and loose cash from Julia. Then there's newlyweds Aiden and Heidi. Aiden is an Iraq war vet, and he suffers from PTSD. Their house was purchased for them by Aiden's overbearing mother, who despises Heidi and wants to control every aspect of Aiden's life. Then there are newcomers Maggie and Craig, who recently moved to the cul-de-sac from out of state. They have recently separated, after Craig was unable to put up with Maggie's paranoia any more. For her part, Maggie always has a gun in her purse.

So, there are a lot of candidates for both victim and shooter.

This was a quick and diverting read.

I LOVED this book!

There have been many times when I've read books that alternated chapters giving each character a voice. Some books, I've dreaded getting to a particular character or skimmed that chapter because I just wasn't interested. This book however, has a 5 characters/families that I couldn't wait to read what was going on. Each character was unique and had their own "issues" going on and I was all there for it. A few characters I loved and cared about and a few that I couldn't stand but wanted to keep reading about them.

Ultimately someone gets shot in the story and almost on a daily basis, I chose.....the wrong person who did it.
Each person has a motive and each person own guns.

The worse thing I can say about this book is that I've finished it and will miss the characters that live on that
cul-de-sac.

Thank you so much for granting my wish and allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest opinion. ( )

I really wanted to like this book and for the most part I did, the plot concept was great. However, Erin's stank ass attitude and her mother's reluctance to discipline or to remind that self entitled little brat who the parent is and who the child is turned me off this book. ( )
