Una joven pareja de recién casados llega desde Barcelona a instalarse en un pueblo desolado en mitad de la nada. Allí, el marido será gerente de una nueva empresa extranjera dedicada al reciclaje de residuos metálicos que para los lugareños es simple y llanamente una chatarrería. La familia va creciendo hasta sumar cinco hijos, mientras el matrimonio hace aguas y la actividad de la planta resulta cada vez más dudosa. Se habla de unos camiones sin marca ni letreros, llenos de bidones de contenido raro. Y una noche todos asisten atónitos a un suceso que cambia la vida de la familia, del pueblo y del desierto que los rodea. Una casa en el desierto es la historia de unos personajes y un paisaje.
