I see my son's scooter lying in the undergrowth. Time stands still. Where is he? Deafened by my own heartbeat, I keep looking but I can't see him. This is all my fault. My punishment for the things I did, and the things I should have done. All I ever wanted was to keep my son safe. I married the perfect husband, built the perfect home. I've tried to give Finn the life I never had. Everything was going so well. Until now. It's just small things at first - a punctured tyre, an open gate that I'm sure I locked. But then I see the photograph of two young girls, and a night I've tried to forget. I know I have to stop pretending that nothing is happening. I can't escape the truth. Someone knows my secret. But what do they want from me? A gripping and suspenseful thriller with a jaw-dropping twist, fans of Friend Request, The Wife Between Us and The Girl on the Train won't be able to put this down. What readers are saying about Sam Hepburn: 'Wow!... This book kept me captivated, and I had to finish it in one go... The twists and turns just made me crave for more, and the suspense was too much for me to simply stop reading the book.' The World is Ours to Read ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 'After the first two chapters I was hooked! 60% through I was enchanted... one of those suspenseful, addictive stories that has to be read in one sitting.' NetGalley reviewer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 'Kept me so gripped from the first page right through to the last... loved every minute of it!... I couldn't turn the pages fast enough! Definite 5 stars from me!' Goodreads reviewer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 'Perfect from start to finish. Addictive. Charged. Suspenseful. A masterpiece. Highly recommend this to everyone. Five stars are not enough. One of the best thrillers I have ever read.' Renita D'Silva, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐… (more)

This was gripping!
Nicola had a rough childhood, growing up in foster care, making friends with one of the girls who joined her in care but led her into some awful situations. Now she is rebuilding her life, she is a dentist’s receptionist but also works for a charity helping kids just out of foster care, she doesn’t want kids to go through what she did. She is married and a mother.
She is putting the past into the past. But the past can’t stay buried forever and it isn’t long before it starts catching up with her.
From the first few pages I found myself absolutely loathing Ian her husband and feeling for Nicola, I was invested in her, even when secrets were revealed I was still rooting for her throughout.
There were several twists and turns along the way. The characters and story were completely believable, which made me feel even more strongly with the detesting of some of them. This can and does happen sadly.
Sam Hepburn wrote a compelling read that will reel you in from the moment you start the first page.

This was a pretty good psychological thriller. The story was interesting enough to keep me going but there were just too many facets that weren't in line with the plot that had me constantly questioning what was going on.

Nicci was fresh out of the foster system with her best friend, Donna, and they were both heading straight down the wrong path when she became single mom to Finn. Finn changed her life and she fought for them both to survive leaving Donna and her old life behind. Along the way she married Ian, a successful dentist, and is suddenly living the good life - except that her husband is a jerk. Out of the blue Donna appears with a plot twist and threats of blackmail to bring down Nicci's new seemingly charmed life. And that's when things just get weird. Nicci's actions don't make a whole lot of sense from this point and she doesn't garner a lot of sympathy. Ian's character is abusive, when he's supposed to be subtly gaslighting. The bright spots in this book are the characters of Finn and Leon.

All in all, I was entertained while reading. I would like to thank #NetGalley and Bookouture for providing me an advance copy of #AGoodMother in exchange for an honest review. ( )
