I have pretty much the exact same thoughts about this book as I did the first....

I'm rereading the series, and enjoying it, even though it's largely lacking not only in historical accuracy, but in a historical "feel" as well. The plot is light, but I can't put down the series. ( )

Set in Autumn, 1837, Wagons West: Nebraska! is a gripping story about a group of pioneers led by 'Whip' Holt, crossing the rolling plains towards the Rockies with the hopes of setting up a new town in Oregon country. Thrown in the mix are an escaped black slave, a Native American, spies, rich families and poor families and many other interesting characters to make an interesting and varied mix.
They must overcome their differences in order to survive the treachery of the British and Russian agents sent to stop the caravan, outwit the Native American Indians and survive the trip itself.

I listened to the audio book read by Phil Gigante. I think he was perfectly chosen for the role, and read believably good British, Russian, Native American, American and African characters.

I found the book to be well written, it captured my attention and kept me wanting to read more. I was disappointed when the book ended, simply because I was enjoying it so much I did not want it to end! ( )

An entertaining read. I have some concerns about it's historical accuracy, but it is fiction.

Book description
    Autumn 1837
Driving onward - against the worst of man and nature - a legendary caravan of men, women, and children forge a new link in the wilderness trek from Independence, Missouri to the "Promised Land" beyond the Rockies.
They are pioneering Americans from North and South - side-by-side with immigrants, a Black man and an Indian - waging a fierce daily battle for bare survival on an incompromising journey to their private destinies and the fulfillment of America's greatest dream.

NEBRASKA!
this is the story of fearless devotion to a hard-won ideal, of betrayal from within and sabotage that reaches as far as Britain's and Imperial Russia's shores, of Indian uprising and natural disaster. And above all, it is the story lf "whip" Holt, the ruggedly quiet leader of this leg of the perilous migration; and of Cathy van Ayl, who leaves her family behind in Missouri to continue on with Whip Holt's train - perhaps, to win his heart.
