I just adore how Dini writes the Harley-Ivy dynamic. ( )

I couldn't decide what rating to give this. My initial rating was 4 stars, but after reading all the other reviews I knocked it down to a 3. (Sometimes I can't organize my thoughts about a book until I see other people's reviews. I know, it sounds very sheepy.) But then, feeling inauthentic, I changed it back to 4 stars. I kept going back and forth like that. Here are my various reasons for each rating:

4 stars: fun, light stories. Not a lot of substance, true, but enjoyable nonetheless. I especially enjoyed the last story of the collection, as it had some real "girl power" moments. The art was cutesy but mature.

3 stars: gratuitous soft porn for sure with lots of cleavage and near-nakedness. Objectification of women's bodies. (There are a few bare male chests, but nothing like Harley's and Ivy's.) Almost too silly.

In the end I went with 4 stars because the 3-star objections didn't deter my enjoyment of the book that much. (My feminist nature is scolding myself right now.)

In the style of Batman the Animated Series. It's like candy. No plot or substance, but shiny! Fun! BOOM!! ( )

Very cute stories where Harley and Ivy are the main characters. Very funny and enjoyable light read. The stories are entertaining and the artwork for Love on the Lam is definitely worth a look. ( )
