While nothing will compare to the first book, Stevieās week abroad does come in close second. The premise of the story was good and I enjoyed reading about the murder in question. The cliffhanger though is what has gotten me riled up and wanting the next book IMMEDIATELY. OKAY, WHAT WAS THAT ENDING??? PLEASE TELL ME THERE IS A TRULY DEVIOUS #6, PLEASEEEE!!! I enjoy Maureen Johnson's writing. A LOT!!! It killed me to stay away from this book for so long. The Truly Devious trilogy was indulging and I remember finishing #2 after an 18 hour shift at the ICU in one sitting. I did so similarly with Nine Liars. My only complaint is that sometimes, somethings feel unnecessary and too dragged upon. Eventually it all makes sense but I just got too impatient with this book. The minus 1 star aside, this is such a brilliantly written mystery. The maps are so adorable and just what we need to get a hang of the setting. Its been almost 2 years since I read the box in the woods but I still remember the characters and their dynamics. I love that these teenagers are not annoying unlike in a lot of other YA novels. The alternating timelines make me want to keep reading to find out what's happening next in each storyline and how they will eventually merge. My favorite part of Nine Liars has to be how David got Stevie to the case simply by making friends. It is as though other unsolved cases just find their way to her, since she solved the Ellingham murders. The Truly Devious universe works in mysterious ways! I kind of wanted Stevie to find her college/scholarship through this case, but it ENDS ON A CLIFFHANGER. So, please save with and throw TD#6 at my face ASAP!!! I enjoyed this 5th entry in the series, but not quite as much. Stevie and her friends are in their final year at Ellingham Academy and there is a lot of angst about college plans and such. They concoct a plan to spend a week in England where Stevie's boyfriend, David, is studying, and end up solving a cold case murder mystery from the 1990s. The sleuthing part was fun and detailed. no reviews | add a review
