Not as good as book 1 in my opinion, but still really good. I am sad that I now have to wait for book 3.

Some parts of the story were a bit predictable while others were not.

The spicy scenes were continue to be well written. ( )

I forced myself to finish this, and I needn't have... It was a continuous cycle of betrayal, arguments, violence, and bedroom scenes. By the end, there weren't any characters that I related to or sympathized with. I'll be passing on reading any further installments. ( )

I really love the plot to the story and I know the spice is expected with this author, it just starts to feel like the same scene over and over. Other than that I'm really looking forward to the next book. This one definitely left on a cliffhanger. ( )

This romantic fantasy novel is a sequel to St. Clair’s King of Battle and Blood, and the second book in her Adrian x Isolde series. It’s difficult to review a sequel novel without giving away too many details of the first book, so forgive me for sticking to generalizations!

Perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Leigh Bardugo, this novel is a feast of fantasy, set in a world brimming with danger - vampires, witches, and a myriad of beastly apparitions waiting in the woods. Isolde reigns in a palace of lies, unsure of whom she can trust when friends become foes and her own husband is secretly fighting against the power of a god. As she attempts to regain the powers once at her fingertips, Isolde is trapped in a web of intrigue and warfare growing more treacherous every minute. The descriptive prose ensnares each reader in a realm equal parts steamy and sensual, brutal and bloody. In the end, this book begs the question: what is true evil, and how far can you tread into the darkness before it destroys your morals? With this intensely electrifying adventure, St. Clair leaves you on the edge of your seat waiting for the next book in the series.

My one dislike is the gratuitous amount of sex and violence, which really detracted from the story. This resulted in the loss of a star - otherwise, this was a 4-star read. ( )
