A vibrant collection that introduces poetry to very young children. The poems selected are from stellar writers, but are small selections or excerpts that are kid appropriate. Poets such as Langston Hughes, Shakespeare, and Yeats are featured. Each poem is paired with a lovely photograph that matches the subject, and one or two critical questions that ask children to think about the picture or the poem in analytic terms, but at a level that young children can handle. A basic index is used, with tabs using picture icons that represent the poem along the side of the pages. With the bright visual appeal, the clean layout, and the great poems, this board books is a wonderful way to introduce kids to quality poetry. ( )
