This poem, 'was written for the 1953 Cheltenham Festival Poetry Competition and was read at the Festival by Mr John Laurie who afterwards broadcast the poem on the Midland Regional Home Service'. It comprises 4 pages, refers back to service in World War I and later getting a job as a porter at 'Brimscombe up the Stroud Valley'.
